Alfaz Albir Guide

Today the main industry is that of tourism with the beach known as Albir Playa offering a
sheltered location for the many international visitors who enjoy the relaxed holiday
atmosphere and all year mild climate in this well planned small town.  In winter months Alfaz is
a popular destination for long stay visitors who own property in the town.  Real estate is the
second largest industry in the town as the demand from people wishing to buy homes
increases with every year.  Alfaz town and the Albir Playa offer excellent value
properties for
sale when compared to the more built up resorts or Benidorm and affluent Altea.

It has been possible to greatly control the growth of the town with tough building regulations
which have prevented the construction of high rise skyscrapers as found in neighboring
Benidorm.  Residential developments are limited to just 4 floors and with 50% of developed
land reserved as green areas this makes the town a very desirable place to settle.

In the old town there are fewer than 1,000 homes, whilst in the developed areas the number
of properties numbers about 4,000.  Of the 17,000 inhabitants, 9,000 are foreigners from
more than 60 different countries with those from Norway making up the largest population of
Norwegians outside of Norway and the largest single population in the town.  This is the only
town in Spain where foreigners outnumber our Spanish hosts.  L´Alfàs del Pi enjoys an
infrastructure designed to offer a great quality of life to residents and visitors with a
multi-sports stadium, municipal arts centre and excellent health centers. The local town hall
offers great opportunities for education and public services are second to none.

With the arrival of so many nationalities over the past 20 years Alfaz offers great variety with
almost every European cuisine available in top class restaurants and
café bars operated by
the many local foreign residents.  A summer evening spent dining on the terraces along Albir
Playa cannot be bettered anywhere on the Costa Blanca.

Playa Del Albir the local beach is situated just a few kilometers from the town centre and is
sheltered by the Sierra Helada. The beach offers a range of services and leisure activities
including a nudist beach which can be found by the lighthouse. The Sea promenade, known
as the promenade of stars contains the names of famous film stars who have visited L´ Alfàs
during the annual film Festival which takes place in July each year.

Alfaz enjoys annual Fiestas such as those to honor the Blessed Christ which is held from the
7th to the 10th of November each year with processions, a parade and fireworks display.  In
the summer, during the first weekend of August, there are fiestas on the beach, with street
bands and open-air concerts. The Festival of the Cross is held during the first weekend in
May, with an open air mass and celebrations. The feast of St Joseph is celebrated on the
19th of March.

There are some great walks in the area including a popular one from Albir beach to its
lighthouse via an old path. You can walk or tour with bicycles on the numerous trails that
crisscross the Sierra Helada which is bordering on the resort of Benidorm.

Sport lovers will be impressed with the world class sports centre which is regarded as one of
the best in the Alicante province and offers all year facilities due to the mild climate.  Within a
short drive the area also boasts some of the most popular Golf resorts on the Costa Blanca
and 5 star spa and fitness facilities.

With good road and coach services to Alicante and Valencia airports travel to and from Alfaz
is easy with both airports reached in under an hour.  With

Welcome to the L´ Alfàs del Pi mini guide (Known
locally as Alfaz). From ancient beginnings this once
small fortified village situated inland to provide shelter
from the Berber pirates now boasts a thriving tourist
sector and resident population of foreigners from all
over Europe. The name Alfaz is from the Moorish
language and means “sown land” and proves the long
history of links to the land from which early inhabitants
made a living.  Fruit and almond groves plus the
mining of metals was once the only income in the town.
